Pro bono service

The Mary Ward Legal Centre runs pro bono advice clinics for people on a low income and limited capital. The advice is provided by volunteer lawyers from various legal firms.

PLEASE NOTE: the advice is currently by telephone only. The service covers the following areas of law:

  • Disputed debt (general debt advice can be booked via our debt team)
  • Some housing issues
  • Employment
  • Consumer
  • Contract law
  • Small claims
  • Family

Unfortunately we do not advise on:

  • Immigration
  • Criminal law
  • Defamation
  • Complex property matters
  • Wills & probate
  • Leasehold and service charge matters

These appointments are limited to approximately 45 minutes free legal advice so complex matters with large bundles may not be suitable for our clinics. We are unable to provide advocacy or representation. Each client will need to be assessed by our Access to Legal Services Team to see if the matter is suitable for an appointment. The sessions are by appointment only.

Unfortunately this service is very oversubscribed.

The pro bono service at Mary Ward Legal Centre can only provide one-off advice on a limited number of enquiries.  If you do not hear back from us within five days, that unfortunately means we are not able to assist you and we would suggest that you contact LawWorks for other pro bono services, Find a legal advice clinic near you | LawWorks
